Mountains, Seas & Endless Roads: A Drive Across the Balkans and Beyond

Seven Countries, One Journey: Exploring Europe by Road

From the Alps to the Adriatic

It all began in my home country, Austria, where the mountains feel like old friends and the air carries the scent of pine and freedom. I packed my bags, started the car, and set off — no strict plans, just curiosity and an open heart.

My first stop was Hungary, where I spent a few peaceful days around Lake Balaton — the “Hungarian Sea.” The gentle waves, vineyards, and charming lakeside villages made it the perfect place to slow down and ease into the rhythm of the journey.

From there, I followed the road south toward Croatia, tracing the coastline where turquoise waves kiss the cliffs. The sunsets over the Adriatic were pure magic — the kind that makes you forget time.

Driving further along the coast, Montenegro surprised me with its wild beauty — towering mountains meeting deep blue bays, small villages tucked between them, and locals who greeted me with genuine smiles.

Then came Albania, a place that felt raw, real, and full of heart. I spent some time volunteering at a small campsite in the seaside village of Himara, where I met some of the kindest people I’ve ever known. Days there were simple and fulfilling — mornings by the sea, evenings shared over homemade food and stories that crossed languages and borders. It quickly became one of the most special parts of my journey.

Crossing into Greece felt like stepping into a dream — olive trees, whitewashed houses, and the endless sparkle of the Aegean Sea. I spent my days exploring hidden beaches and my evenings under starlit skies, always surrounded by the warmth of kind strangers and curious cats.

Finally, my journey led me to Italy, where I slowed down to savor life — espresso by the sea, morning markets, and conversations that felt like poetry. It was the perfect ending to a road filled with laughter, discovery, and the quiet joy of simply being on the move.

This trip wasn’t just about the places I saw — it was about the freedom of the open road, the connections made along the way, and the reminder that home can be found anywhere you feel alive

I’m Felicitas

Hi! I’m originally from Austria, but my love for exploring new places has taken me all around the world. Along the way, I discovered my true passion — caring for animals and building connections with them. As a professional pet sitter, I treat every pet as if they were my own, giving them love, comfort, and attention while their families are away. I’ve recently made Portugal my new home and couldn’t be happier to continue doing what I love here — spending my days surrounded by happy paws and wagging tails.

About my posts

I travel to feel alive — from campervan roads in Australia to island sunsets in Indonesia and Hawaii, to mountain trails in New Zealand and the hidden corners of Malaysia. These are my stories from the journey.
